Why does the leather of some BookBooks look and feel different?

Last Updated: Apr 05, 2018 03:06PM EDT

The black and brown BookBooks are made of cow leather, while the Vibrant Red and Rutledge BookBooks are made of goat leather.  The leather of the Vibrant Red BookBook is more highly distressed, and it feels thinner and more textured than the cow leather, which feels thicker, and smoother.

The leather of the Rutledge BookBook has many hand-rubbed layers of dye, plus the leather undergoes a compression process that makes it feel thinner and harder, and renders it more scratch-resistent than the brown or black BookBook.

The difference in feel and appearance between the cow and goat leather is not indicative of a different quality of leather, but rather a different type of leather and finishing process, and does not constitute a manufacturing defect or a lower-quality product.
